hanks for visiting our site. We welcome your visit to our
farm anytime. We established our herd and new barn in 1999 after
working on a grade dairy for several years. Neither Dwight or
Anita |
| grew up on a dairy farm, but loved farming in general. Dwight raised club
calves and was active in 4H and FFA all his teenage years, and then
worked as a vet assistant for several years, which has been an asset
here on our own farm. Anita worked for a very well managed grade herd
for about 10 years and learned to love cows while there. We acquired
some registered Holsteins that were of really good quality and from
there we really got the Holstein Bug! We mostly have just been trying to
build our herd since then and trying to tap into some great cow families
that we think highly of. We hope to be able to be merchandising more
once we get our foundation animals with heifers in our herd.
We had a very successful spring show having best bred and owned
cow, reserve intermediate champion, and many other show
winnings. |

ur focus here is Faith and Family, and it's a great joy to work
together and have fun together. We do have some bad days, and lots of
work along with it, but we believe the scripture --"In the |
| sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread..." Gen.
3:19 KJV. Nothing in life comes easy
and without much perseverance and integrity. Low milk prices, sick cows,
drought, ect... all come along with it and make for a total relying on
our Heavenly Father. We have found much comfort during those times to
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own
understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy
paths." Prov.3, 5-6 KJV. |

elcome to the Sumac-Valley Farm website. Sumac-Valley was
established in 2004 when Jason and Kendra Rokey moved from the
town of Bern Kansas to a location in the country nestled in |
| the gently rolling hills of Northeast Kansas
near Sabetha. Jason and Kendra both grew up on small farms, and
although our parents did not dairy we both had dairy heifers for
4-H projects. In his last year of high school Jason got a job
with Rokeyroad Holsteins milking cows and doing calf chores. He
later left to become an electrician and Kendra became employed
there. While working there, she developed an interest in Red and
White Holsteins, and thus made her first purchase of an R & W
animal, Edeal Tia Maria-Red. |
 |
ow started the legacy of Sumac-Valley! With the help of
Dwight and Anita Rokey, Kendra began flushing her to Rubens,
which resulted in a number of offspring for Kendra as well as
for |
| Rokeyroad Holsteins. A couple of years later
Jason and Kendra were united in marriage. We continued flushing
Maria to bulls such as Jordan and Talent. Since then, we have a
host of daughters and granddaughters that we have been
privileged to sale, show, and care for. In the fall of 2006 we
purchased a heifer out of the Scientific Cherry Rae family,
which goes back to the great Queen of the Breed II cow,
Glenridge Citation Roxy! We are excited of the potential that
she brings to our farm! |
 |
ur goal here at Sumac-Valley is to improve the genetics in
the Red and White Holstein breed. In our breeding program we
select bulls that complement or help the traits in our heifers,
not |
| necessarily what is currently hot at the moment.
While we ourselves do not have a dairy, we thank Dwight and
Anita for allowing us to have a few milking head at their farm
and for the help that they have given us. But, most of all, we
give God the thanks, and credit for where we are today. Jason,
Kendra, and Family |
